Sf-Active Pages Overview

Sf-Active Introduction

maintained by sf-active working group, imc-sf-active@lists.indymedia.org

  • Best and most current information including anonymous cvs details is available at http://sfa.indymedia.org/

  • Example sites:
  • Some design discussing happening on SFActiveDesign

  • uses mysql, object-oriented php4, aimed at developing a set of classes that can be used to build indymedia websites

  • can be run stand-alone, or as a server with a number of sites sharing the same code directory, with local templates and cache directories. requires the ability to modify php.ini

  • caching and templates are a design goal, although not fully implemented. separation of presentation and logic is a goal.

  • multilingual support is about 80% there, with existing support for Spanish, catalan, french, italian, dutch, serbian, turkish, portuguese, slovak and English

  • web-based administration of any number of newswires, with the ability to have topical, thematic, internal & hidden categories, as well as local/global/other separation. Publishing in multiple categories is possible

  • web-based management of any number of homepage or feature page center columns, with automatic searchable archiving

  • web-based administration of articles, including the ability to hide articles but display them on a "hidden" newswire

  • web-based administration of spam control, including the ability to send a "poison cookie" to a repeated spammer

  • supports a large number of MIME-types

  • internal search engine that seems to be pretty fast, a lot of search options on all pages

  • an integrated calendar/events system with web-based administration

  • RDF/XML syndication (also per category), works with the new global indymedia system

  • presentation controlled by CSS; users can set their preference of any number of themes

  • XHTML-compliant

  • tech skills or server access (ftp/scp/ssh/html) NOT required for basic site upkeep
