Computers For Bolivia Project
This project was started in early 2004 with the involvement of Portland IMC and Bolivia IMC. The goal is to send approximately 20-30 recycled linux boxes to Bolivia for use by 2 different groups: a school in Huarisata and a social center in El Alto. In Portland the project is being actively organized by Kim Alphandary and
SteeV. Those working on this in La Paz include Chalo from Bolivia IMC as well as Luis Gomez.
The computers will be sourced from
Freegeek. (see
BoliviaProposal?)
We are still investigating shipping possibilities, and raising funds for the shipping, as we estimate it will be about $1600.
UPDATE: This page needs to be updated. There's lots of news, but there hasn't been a lot of time spent keeping this current. the
Villa Ingenio website might be more up to date as time goes on. --

I am currently studying the history of Indian schools in Bolivia, and am very
interested in your project.
I support your project and want to lend my name and title (Brooke Larson, Professor
of History at Stony Brook University) to your list of sponsors. In addition, the
Social Justice Committee of the Unitarian-Universalist Fellowship of Huntington (my
church) voted last night to lend its name to the list of sponsors.
