Get Involved at the Independent Media Center
In these pages you should find everything you need to get started with indymedia and to keep you going - so remember how to get here!
First... Every blue word is a link to something else. You'll see lots of them.
If you need to ask a question of a real person you can try one of us
here, find your nearest Independent Media Center (IMC) from the
contacts page, or ask a question on
irc.indymedia.org.
Here's what you'll find on this page:
First steps
If you've filled out the form at
volunteer.indymedia.org you might want to read more about the IMC. Here are some resources for that:

If you don't get an email response quickly, just check your local imc's website for meeting times, and show up! Take initiative and call your local imc, and/or get online at
irc.indymedia.org and chat with other imc folks. It really is up to you to get involved, and carve out the kind of work you'd like to do.
Finding a project
Hopefully you want to do some work on one of indymedias projects. If your local imc has a page on this system it'll be in the
Local web. For projects involving the whole network checkout the
Global web. [

Mailing Lists
Local IMCs, and the global indymedia network, use mailing lists for discussions, working groups, announcements and formal decisions. Each list has a specific intended use and guidelines to match. Understanding appropriate posting guidelines and gleaning information from list traffic and archives is an important skill for effective involvement. The archives of a list help you understand how active a list is, and how it is used. If you have questions about appropriate use of a list, you can email the list administrator, whose email address can be found at the bottom of each List Information page.

Getting help
This is not always easy. We are all volunteers and some are very busy. Usually once you find an email address and ask someone personally for help you'll get some. Try one of
us - we are still developing systems for processing emails. [
