video server problems

• 23 Nov 2002 - seems that the server http://r1.encoding.com "doesn't work at all" - this is a known problem: http://lists.indymedia.org/mailman/public/imc-video/2002-November/002294.html
• 24 Nov 2002 - http://realmedia.freespeech.org seems to have some (at least one) non-downloadable .rm files, e.g. http://realmedia.freespeech.org/indynewsreal0802.rm/indynewsreal0802.rm which is playable using the rtsp:// protocol, but not using http:// .

• Cinelerra is an advanced Free Software video editing tool used by professionals. Software based on it has been used recently in many high-budget films and TV shows. Tho not as simple as Final Cut Pro, it's much more flexible and supports distributed rendering without having to pay a per-node license fee. It supports bezier masks, chroma key, and many other realtime effects previously only found in commercial packages costing several grand per license. Definite potential for IMC use.

  • Use mplayer without having GNU/Linux on your harddisk. Use MoviX live cdrom: http://movix.sf.net One can even build cdrom iso image with video files, bootable live system, player and codecs with a tool that runs on MS windows. These cdrom are great for taking to place where you don't known what computer has installed.

++++ Indytube Problem: youtube.com owned by Big Brother Google Corporation has become very popular and people publishing videos do not realise the risks they are taking in terms of dependence and/or being reported to the police in e.g. PRChina, the USA, Sweden or other similar places. Worse, it encourages people to use non-free software. So indymedia is responding to that to offer what free (politically free, not just money free) alternatives we can.
