Foire Aux Questions

  • VideoFaq - seems to be quite techie desktop video based stuff
  • VideoActivismFAQ - general intro and how to get involved

Ressources logiciels libres pour la vidéo

  • Cinelerra is an advanced Free Software video editing tool used by professionals. Software based on it has been used recently in many high-budget films and TV shows. Tho not as simple as Final Cut Pro, it's much more flexible and supports distributed rendering without having to pay a per-node license fee. It supports bezier masks, chroma key, and many other realtime effects previously only found in commercial packages costing several grand per license. Definite potential for IMC use.
  • Ogg Theora is a patent-free video codec
    • Is based on On2 VP3, current VP3 videos will be "upgradable" to Ogg Theora
    • Within the Ogg framework, a flexible multimedia stream system
    • Should be available by end of 2003, many delays have postponed release
    • Subtitling format (Ogg Writ) is being developed by Arc
  • IceShare
    • cross-platform
    • will play Ogg audio and video (using OggFile?)
    • p2p servlet based on (but not compatable with) bittorrent
    • will distribute files and live streams on the network
    • heavily protected against "insertion" of different media
      • ie, religious or radical-right data cant be "cut into" streams
    • Protocol documented at http://wiki.xiph.org/IceT
  • http://www.mplayerhq.hu/homepage/ mplayer is a GPL (GNU Public License) video player for linux machines. It's suggested you add libraries of win32 codecs, realplayer codecs and live.com, so that you can play or convert between many, many formats (e.g. "MPEG, VOB, AVI, VIVO, ASF/WMV, QT/MOV, FLI, NuppelVideo, yuv4mpeg, FILM, RoQ, OGG and some RealMedia files, supported by many native, XAnim, and Win32 DLL codecs. You can watch VideoCD, SVCD, DVD, 3ivx, FLI, and even DivX"). As of 25 Dec 2002, at version 0.90rc2)
    • Use mplayer without having GNU/Linux on your harddisk. Use MoviX live cdrom: http://movix.sf.net One can even build cdrom iso image with video files, bootable live system, player and codecs with a tool that runs on MS windows. These cdrom are great for taking to place where you don't known what computer has installed.
