WsF2007Conversation2
Hi all -
Quick updates:
For any one coming to the WSF, we have a space - Room 235 is where the radio
station & production studio is.
How to get there:
Come in Gate 2, go to the very top - really - up to the last stairs at the
top of the stadium. We are in a media sky box with windows looking out over
the stadium. It has an outline of Africa with an ((( i ))) in the window.
We will be there from 9ish to 5ish every day broadcasting. We hope to begin
broadcasting tomorrow afternoon.
Please feel free to bring interviewees or audio content to the IMC for
broadcast. We will be uploading all radio content to the features section
of kenya.indymedia.org in 30 minute segments that are made easy for
rebroadcast. We are also working on a streaming server.
Yes, thanks to Kwadronaut's help, we now can post to the features section.
We have found help to migrate their site to a more sustainable solution very
soon. I set up training with Kenya IMC on the site today - so they will
know how to maintain it.
We have about 12 new African audio producers who have been trained
throughout the week. In addition, we are joined by 12 audio producers from
Koch FM, a low power station that is going on the air in Korogocho, the
poorest part of Nairobi. We have joined forces to produce during the week.
In addition to gathering content from the WSF, we have made a conscious
effort to go to the slums of Nairobi to interview people who can't go to the
WSF about the organizing in their communities. We have visited Korogocho
and Kangemi. We have arranged with Nick Macheria to interview in Kibera.
We have a WSF IMC newspaper that will be printed early this week in Swahili
and English.
We have build a 2 color printing press that has been build by hand and we
will be making t-shirts celebrating Africa Indymedia - come by the IMC after
Monday to get a t-shirt. Koch FM will also be offering tshirts for a
donation.
We are joined by 12 students and faculty from Maseno University in Western
Kenya. The house is very full (30+ people in a 6 bedroom house) but if you
want to come by for a night to get to know people, you are welcome. There
is floor and tent space only - we are out of blankets - and we will need you
to help with chores/cooking etc. To find out how to get here, come to the
IMC space.
In addition to all this, we have together built 2 40 watt transmitters and a
number of 1 watt transmitters.
Thanks to everyone on this list for your support!
- Danielle
