Indy Abruzzo’s Editorial Guide
Before reading the policy, if you don’t know the meaning of Newswire or Editorial Group, please read Open Publishing.
What is Policy? Policy, or Editorial Guides, are the principles we use to administrate the contents of Newswire. Our choice is always to sift the newswire as little as possible, but if necessary, our filters are:
- 1.hidding, means to transfer a post published in the Hidden Section, though always visible;
- 2.editing means to change a text file in a published Post;

According to the users and Indy Abruzzo’s collective hidden posts are those violating our Policy.
Indymedia Abruzzo does not censure anything, in fact hidden posts stay available in the proper section (although they are no more as visible as the other posts), in order to allow everyone to verify clearly the reasons which have brought to the hiding and to permit recovery in case of mistakes.

In particular circumstances it is possible to modify the published posts; if it contains sensitive data (family names, addresses, tel. numbers or everything else related to not-public people) these are replaced by xxx.
The same operation will be effected for pictures: if picture is published before its content is unrecognizable, we will modify and then published it.

To protect anonymity and privacy is a political choice. That is why Indymedia Abruzzo does not register the IP addresses of people who publish in this site, ensuring their anonymity.

Indymedia Abruzzo does not hide post according to their truth. Indymedia Abruzzo is not a newspaper and news are not static; we invite users not to be passive in the media process, but to enrich the news with their comments, so that who reads can really understand what has happened.
Which are Policy’s criterions?
We reckon they are not The Bible but a sort of filter which can even make mistakes. In fact it can be modified during time.
Here are the criterion according to which a Post is considered “Out of Policy”:
- Fascist, racial and xenophobe post
- Sexist post
- Party or institutional propaganda post
- Religious propaganda post
- Post with pictures of identifiable people post
- Post without informations post
To better understand the meaning of these points, here are some general considerations:
- We hide post justifying, make propaganda or support fascism or nazism. We make out of order links to this kind of site.
- We hide post justifying, make propaganda or support racial, sexual, religious, social cultural and political Discrimination
- We hide communications, posters, bills or anything else making propaganda for a party (even its products) receiving public money. It could use its own resources instead of exploiting ours. In this case we suggest the to use indymedia Abruzzo in correct way, eliminating everything unuseful to pure information.
- During the election campaign all the posts referring to vote are hidden.
- We hide any religious post, or containing images of common people.
- Finally we hide post without informations, empty or meaningless or even written by the troll with the only aim to disturb.

Cmi-abruzzo is a project of a group of persons who share the basic principles and the methods of Indymedia Network. The main cmi abruzzo purposes are, rated by importance: - give to voiceless individuals and groups a media to let them be able to report directely news and stories censored, hidden or distorted by mainstream media; - operate as an archive to find documents otherwise quickly overflowed by mainsream media flow Those purposes will be achieved mainly by a web site management that will be a collector of informations and (in)formative situations organized in real life. The management of this project will be done in an assembly way using electronic communication tools (mailing lists, irc, instant messaging, etc...) as well by means of periodical meetings opened to all the interested people. The structure of the group is configured in an horizontal way and the decision making method used will be similar to the consensus method, in other words decisions will be taken unanimously and/or without explicit and motived vetoes. Due to the mailing lists technical and relational characteristics, we consider the active participation an obligation that everyone voluntarily accept as long as subscribes to the mailing list. The list will have public archives to everyone via web. There are many levels of activism related to Indymedia Abruzzo. The first one consist in publishing on the web site news and articles telling stories that otherwise would be ignored. To partecipate more actively, people should agree with this Mission Statement and with the policy, subscribe the mailing list, partecipate in the web site management and to the meetings organized. The web site would be totally autonomous as well as a part of an italian geographic network.
