-Request of delegates list for participation in the Alternative(indymedia) Conference in Dakar Senegal from 1st to the 14th March 2004.

For months now, we have in the frame of encouraging the development of indymedia in Africa, embarked on arrangements to participate in the “boundaries to bridges tour”. The tour organised by activists of a host of other activists groups began in September in Andalusia-Spain; is to go through Morocco, Mauritania and to end in Senegal in March 2004. The hope is to introduce indymedia to the activists in communities in these countries. In the same light in the two weeks of alternative media festival in the frame of the tour- to take place in Senegal, we plan to hold an alternative(indymedia) media conference, in which we hope to bring together both those involved already in indymedia in africa and other media activists to take an in dept look at indymedia. This far we’ve had a series of IRC meetings. We did try to incorporate the imc-Morocco project which the activists of imc-Madiaq have been into for a while now. The last most important meeting took place between imc-Madiaq folks and forming imc-Morocco folks on the 8-9th November 2003 in Tanger Morocco. Presently the rest of the other activists involved in the tour will as well be in Morocco for the entire December. We are as well trying to make contacts with activists from Mauritania with the help of some activists from imc-Lille in France.

Unfortunately we’ve not been able to have experienced imc-activists in the present touring group this far, to help with imc workshops thus at this point it is more about getting contact with activists to have them come over to the Senegal conference.

This is a request for those who can afford to be in Senegal for the conference to indicate so that we can write a budget for the conference as soon as possible that will include the flight tickets of those who wish to participate but cannot afford the fair. We also need to go about organising invitations for visas for those who need them.

The last proposal in the discussions that have mostly been taking place through IRCmeetings is as follows : -6 volunteer activists with an experience in the indymedia network process and technicality are required to help in running workshops. This activists simply need to inform their local imcs and their local imc needs to simply endorse them or a network working group in which they have been involved in. -The three approved african and the two semi-african imcs via South Africa, Nigeria Ambazonia, Canaries and Madiaq have space for three(3) delegates each; 2 of the delegates are to be members of their imc and the third could be a media activists with potential for being involved in indymedia. -Forming imcs in Africa have place for 2 delegates, via; Angola, Kenya, Morocco, Egypt, Algeria, Congo, Zimbabwe. -Activists from the countries were the tour will go through have space for 2 delegates, via; Senegal, Mauritania, Morocco(already have a forming imc).

*ALL IMCS/VOLUNTEERS ARE EXPECTED indicate by email to the imc-africa list LATEST 20 th December 2003. So we could start searching for the funds necessary to cover their transport fair.
