Dear friends  
Greetings from indymedia.org - madurai collective. 

Seven of us have come together to initiate this process. There is Ms.Pavalam,
 an activist  working for the rights of girl child, Mr.Babu, a painter and
 printer , Mr.Sundar, a theatre person and tamil lecturer  , 
Ms. Vardhini from All India Democratic Women's Association (AIDWA, 
Mr.Sethu, a writer and human rights activist, Mr.Prabhakar, 
a musician and lecturer and myself, Amudhan, a media activist and 
video producer.

We are excited about the idea of running the website India.indymedia.org 
from madurai. We have started contacting activists, artists, 
acadamecians, and media persons in and around tamilnadu. 
We are also talking with movements, groups and organisations.

At present, we are planning to use the computer in a commercial internet 
browsing centre in Madurai. the person who is running the centre has
 agreed to upload things for us. We may have to pay for his service
 and equipment.

The following is the plan regarding the material.

   1) to begin with, only text and photograhs are going to be uploaded.
   2) we are planning to upload, a long list of issue based documentary 
films made in india.
   3) we are thinking of having a section on personalities like 
medha patkar, C.K. Janu, Niyogi,who are not loved by the mainstream media.
   4) we are planning to use articles, reports from smaller 
websites, newsletter, journals and magazines.
   5) we have asked friends to include us in the press list of theirs, 
so that we too get their press release.
   6) we have asked friends to send us fact finding reports, e-mails 
about the struggles, initiatives and constructive activities.
   7) later we may start producing our own materials on local struggles, initiatives and constructive activities.
  8) we are planning to focus on the issues like, caste related 
violence, poverty, untouchability, impact of globalisation on 
natural resources, women and children, employment, agriculture, 
artisans and industry.
