Summary of the Tokyo Meeting
DATE: May 31, 2005
Participants: (from 17:00) Paul, Jong, Tomoko, (from 19:00)Peco
Observers: Nobita, Ms. Yosizawa
Paul COMMENTS 6/27/2005 We need to discuss this and other things on list....we did not have a meeting following this in JUNE due to late arrivals and also the fact that one member may have left Japan suddenly, so we should discuss online and at June Kansai meeting this and other stuff mentioned below-->
AGENDA:
- How can we improve consolidation of the core of the IMC?
- How should we support and state solidarity with other IMCs?
- Do we need a physical center or not?
- How can we attract more Japanese members on the ML?
- Should we rearrange the banner design or not? If we do it, shall we agree the katakana design (especially from Japanese point of view)?
1. How can we improve consolidation of the core of the IMC?
1-A We should reorganize the editors list.
-First, make documentation of the roles of editorial members (Paul will
prepare the draft from the IMCıs original? And then circulate it among Tokyo staffs?)
Paul COMMENTS 6/27/2005 THIS AND MORE HAS BEEN DONE BY G IN THE MONTH OF JUNE AND WE ARE TALKING ABOUT IN VARIOUS SECTIONS OF
http://docs.indymedia.org/view/Local/ImcJapan#Documents_Works_in_progress
-Ask each registered editors whether they want to remain as an editor or not (by email).
1-B We should reorganize the mailing list.
-Inform all the people on the mailing list of the reorganization of the ML. Ask all of them to send back their responses to the certain address whether they want to continue subscription. If a person doesnıt respond, the person will be removed from the ML.
* Consideration: before doing this, should we separate and start two MLs for each language?*
2. How should we support and state solidarity with other IMCs?
After reorganizing the editorial members, we could select one or more members as the representative of the IMC Japan to the other IMCs.
3. Do we need a physical center or not?
Physically and economically, now itıs impossible, though, we can still
consider the possibility to set up a local office in Tokyo as the number of staffs in Tokyo increase.
4. How can we attract more Japanese editorial members on the ML?
After reorganizing the ML, we can post recruiting information on the list
first. Also after reorganizing the ML, we can call on our friends to this
IMC project.
5. Should we rearrange the banner design or not? If we do it, shall we agree the katakana design (especially from Japanese point of view)?
First, we think the design change from the current banner is not urgently
necessary. Even if the change is endorsed by many members on the ML, still
all the Japanese members in Tokyo donıt think using katakana or kanji is a
good idea (for a ssociation with Meiji advertisements, LDPıs name, etc). If the change would happen, these Japanese members support the idea of using I&J (Indymedia Japan). Jong and Paul already posted the alternative design (I-J marks) on the site.
