Transmission a day of media-makers collaborations................ ......................................................................................................................................... programme | audio | video | end notes | contact A one day gathering of local, community, independent and alternative media makers, Transmission aims to be a space for discussion, skill sharing and debate about communications and social change. Bringing together radio producers, video makers, writers, editors, web programmers and designers, Transmission will explore possibilities for collaboration and exchange and the creation of the media commons. Looking at new distribution and syndication strategies, content sharing via peer2peer networks, old and new media collaborations, online video and audio, creative commons Transmission will be a space for media makers to share their tactics, gripes and successes.

......................................................................................................................................... 10.30 am: Coffee and Gathering 11.00 am OPENING SESSION: 2 Minutes of Infamy Two minutes on the soapbox to introduce yourself and the media you create. 12.00 midday 1.30-2.30 pm: LUNCH 2.30-3.30 pm 3.30 - 4.00 pm: BREAK 4.30-6.30 PM 6.30-8.30 pm: DINNER, DRINKS AND SCREENINGS Video Stream The video stream will be about facilitating and invigorating networks of video-makers within the region to encourage better content-sharing and a community of thought on alt-video production, with perspectives from independent producers and community and activist media collectives. On Saturday we will discuss the philosophies underlying video as a tool for social change, relationships with social-movements and campaigns, and the political nature of our own organisational models and how this can determine the media we make. We will address how increased bandwidth and faster computers are making high quality online video more of a reality everyday. What are the options for video producers to distribute their work online? How can old media / new media collaborations utilise syndication technologies to reach wider audiences? Micro_transmitters, community screenings, festivals, compilations such as Oceania Indymedia Newsreel and Global Insights and a regional online video makers network. What are the possibilities for new media making techniques based on these technologies? The Creative Commons. On Sunday there will be a less-structured get together of video-makers and Indymedia techies to discuss the practicalities of building a regional video network. There will also be the opportunity to exchange content at the media swap-table, plus take part in a practical workshop in compressing and uploading your video to the web. .........................................................................................................................................
