Oceania Meeting number 3 : May 2nd 2004

Funding: We have (or will have in a few day) about $1500 in cash to but tickets as the
SoS money doesn't come through till july. we need $3500 to get 4 people over, plus $500 for other costs.
Dunedin can put $100 dollars into MIM account in the next week or 2.
The $1500 means we can cover the manilla peeps now. Maybe we should just do that and then see how we go for the others? There is also a big gender imbalance at the moment.
And will send a mail tomorrow to all the proposed attendees about gender and where we are at with funding.
The $500 is for the space, hiring those outdoor gas heater things, food, $$ for promotional stuff etc. But this can be done in the next few months - not quite so urgent as airfare money.
We can start by at least paying for the 2 filipino collectives that are already imcs
We could also do fundraisers during the conf or
SoS. Finn and Clare can help with on the ground organising and fundraising in Melbourne from 1st july onwards
Format
Proposal to start with a public meeting maybe on the Thursday night with 1 person from every imc speaking for 5 mins and then opening it up .Thursday night is better than Friday cause of the
SoS closing party stuff
Friday: internal meetings working out some of the stuff we wanted to do, problems etc,
Saturday onwards open workshops ?
Setting up a temporary media lab in Irene would be good too
Set up a video stream in this and talk about oceania newsreal and online video distro
other workshop ideas:
- we also need to get video makers not involved in indymedia to come
- the whole troll/nazi use of indy is one perth ppl would like to see
- defamation workshop with a lawyer
- pred from cat was gonna do a hardware one (na, not happening:

- and perhaps a 'howto run your own pirate radio station'
- and some pimp stuff if we get time
- a workshop/dicsussion about writing features would so be good too
We should also have a semi-open meeting when we invite media makers to discuss how we can work more together
SoS conference:
and to talk to sos folks about waiving fees for international people. (otherwise is unlikely internationals can go)
clare can give a talk at sos about nz activism, anti-ge stuff etc
indymedia should do a presentation too!

just waiting on melb sfactive upgrade (which is happening real soon, tomorrow even) and bris to migrate
there is space for bris on one of the buffalo servers, or nomasters
the problem is someone actually migrating the software to a diff codebase.
shayne and finn might be able to help brisbane migrate if brisbane peeps are too busy. finn can help out with a dada migration if they have ed + design people to clean the site up afterwards

perth is having major probs with nazi postings. discussed tactics and options for dealing with major abuse problems, and ways other imc's deal with it
