The planned thin client network in Camden Media Centre

We are organizing 50 networked desktops for the Camden Centre; plus we try to organise more for the Middlesex uni space, Rampart and possibly Chalk Farm. To check what's needed, and what's already there see ImcUkEsfMoreComputers.

The plan is to run 5 application servers in each of the five rooms which serve 15-20 so-called "thin clients": that are lo-spec desktop machines that run their applications via X-windows from the server. More on specs for clients here: ImcUkEsfCamdenThinClient

These two identical servers could be Primary and Secondary for easy failover; they need setting up at Computeraid on Saturday 9th, 10.30am; address 433 is Holloway Rd . There's a dedicated patch cable directly to the central switch on the gallery which can be locked.

7 computers have been offered from each the Oxford and Manchester IMCs, and 20 from Bristol IMC - thanks! But we hopefully won't need to ship any hardware for so many miles. Still it's good to know there is an option to get these, so thanks!

Wifi

jb has already offered he could bring a wifi router. I haven't spoken to James yet. I guess if the DHCP works it's simply a question of plug a router machine in and that's it... I (Ben(at)riseup.net) have a brand new wifi router in the box and still in it's plastic. I bought one too many on ebay by mistake when I was kitting out the rampart. It can be used for the camden centre if needed. Ideally I'd like to sell it so if indy wants to buy it, it was 35 quid.
