Media Centre Tech

There will be several media centres in static buildings and some mobile media support vehicles.

Connectivity

Edindurgh IMC: Venue secured: Requires more bandwidth - How much should we get?? What are previous guides?

Glasgow IMC: Venues being investigated.

Convergence / Rural / Mobile: Satellite truck sourced: Wi-fi being investigated.

Boxes

How will they be transported? delivered on which day? networked how and in what way? with what clients? operational by which date? etc etc NB a few people making enquiries in scotland to source large uniform batches.

  • Computers

Bought and paid for but not yet shipped. Option of paying 150 quid and having them all shipped in the next few weeks. Or can people collect configure and bring with them. 50 Pentium III base units @ an industrial estate in Shefford, Bedfordshire consisting of..

x20 COMPAQ SFF with onboard network card, floppy drive, no CDROM, no harddrive all have 256mb ram x9 have 600mhz cpu x11 have 500mhz cpu

x30 COMPAQ AP400 with onboard network card, floppy, CDROM, no harddrive x15 have 256mb ram x15 have 128mb ram x20 have 500mhz cpu x1 has a 450mhz cpu x1 has a 600mhz cpu x5 have 500mhz DUAL CPU x3 have 600mhz DUAL CPU

  • Monitors and other essential accessories

Monitors close to Edinburgh would make transportation a lot easier

x15 ~ 14/15" SVGA monitors at rampART

Keyboards x12 ~ AT keyboards @ rampART in London x5 AT keyboards at LARC x6 @ freedom x21 from Com Tec

Mice x14 PS/2 mice @ LARC 40 mice purchased for ten pounds with computer DONT NEED ANY MORE MICE!

Network leads x20+ network leads @rampART x28 ethernet leads various lengths including long ones @LARC DONT NEED ANY MORE NETWORK LEADS

Power leads (will need 2x50) x30 ~ power leads @ rampART x25 power leads @ LARC x32- power leads from Com Tec

maybe get more power leads from Com Tec (N.B.the power leads from Com Tec need to be returned after g8 otherwise we pay £2 each)

Anyway. what this audit seems to mean is this...

1. we don't need anymore network leads 2. we need another 13 power leads 3. we have all keyboards we need 5. we still need to source monitors (25 - 35)

Since monitors are bulky heavy and fragile we should try to source them in Scotland is possible.

  • What else is available? 10 laptops from ESF?

Networking / Wifi / Clients

What's the plan? Previous see tech plan for Camden Centre during ESF: ImcUkEsfCamdenComputers

  • 10 linksys wireless mesh routers each with a 4 port hub built in + about 5 directional, sector and omni antennas. Unsure where these are necessary.
