PhillyIMC Features Working Groups

Hi everyone. I am commandeering this page for my version of the mastheads because I don't know how to create a new page, and this page is clearly out of date and a duplication of the Structure Documentation page. I am only noting the editorial roles, not the other ones.

So this is how I'd propose as working webeditorial groups:

Section Editors - aka focused features editors

• Purpose of the category: to focus us on getting specific amounts of certain sorts of content onto the center column. This is not the same as the topical categories that all stories will be indexed under. Though there may be some overlap, these categories are meant to schematize a type of writing/reporting, as opposed to reporting about a certain topic.
• Role of the editor / pointperson - to look for this content on the newswire, solicit it actively from others off the newswire such as organizational newsletters, and at times write it.
• Purpose of the outreach note: at times certain sorts of writing coincides naturally with other outreach work.

Indy News Review: profiles of other local indy news sources

• outreach note: connects with the local independent media directory and the collaborative work we do with the Sustainable Business Network

Organizational Life: profiles of local organization

Media Critique: critiques and letters to the editors of the corporate press

• pointperson: OPEN
• outreach note: great way to get people to post to the site first - people often critique mainstream media before they are inclined to want to write their own.

Media Reform Movement Watch

• outreach note: connects with the work of organizations like Media Tank and Prometheus, so perhaps someone from their staff or boards could be recruited to fill this role.

Local Politics Watch: city hall

• pointeperson: OPEN
• outreach note: there is a lot of interest in covering city hall more thoroughly. voltanews folks have discussed this; the independent had a column; hallwatch.org

Local Politics Watch: environment

• pointeperson: OPEN
• outreach note: there are so many great organizations that do environmental work in philly. pointperson for this could think of themselves as monitoring and drawing out their work. Model: research for action's documentation teams.

Local Politics Watch: immigration

Philly Neighborhood Focus

• outreach note: DC Spark had a great strategy for building this network in conjunction with neighborhood reporting teams.

Global Politics Coverage

US Politics Coverage

Global Movement Coverage

• pointeperson: OPEN
• outreach note: this should depend on what mass actions are happening at different times. perhaps eventually someone could be focusing on different cruxes of movement building.
