We often get letters saying: Are you covering X story? Here's a generic response:
Hey RECIPIENT,
We can try to be there. But, that's not really the point of indymedia. We try to provide community access to media, so to cover this issue adequately, we need your help. By clicking the "Publish" button in the upper right hand corner, you can submit your own story, press release, photos, etc. By clicking "event calendar" in the left hand corner, you can submit your event to the event calendar. Once you submit something, it instantly goes up on the site for all to see.
Please help us provide coverage of this issue by submitting a story. Indymedia exists to empower people to tell their own stories and subvert the hierarchy of media. We'd be happy to make a feature out of a posted story.
Also, since you're working on this issue, anything you write will have a lot more info and context than something we might write as an outsider. Even a few paragraphs or just an event announcement really helps.
Thanks for all your awesome work!

Also, I've ben sending this response to people who send us/me important events via email:
Hi. Did you know that you can promote your event by posting it on san diego indymedia? Just click the "publish" button in the upper right hand corner and fill out the form and your story will show up on the website instantly! There's also an event calendar that is linked from the publish form where you can post future and recurring events.
Thanks for all your great work!
