TV Channel Proposal
This is a proposal to develop sustainable projects which go
beyond the episodic protest coverage, and more specifically to help form an open local video collective.
Concept
An ongoing television/webcast show with a focus on the coverage of local
bay area activist news and information.
Name
Any ideas? How about using the FOX TV logo but change it to FOG TV? Or how about SF
IndyClips? Enemy Combatant TV?
Formats
- A monthly (at first, and potentially biweekly in the future?) 30 minute television program in:
- A Magazine format (with an introduction, segments, and then a close; with a host/anchor). This was the format that was used for the now-defunct Direct Action Media Network (DAMN) Headline News and the current Freespeech TV's Mobil Eyes program.
- An Indymedia Newsreal style compilation of submitted segments.
- A combination of both?
- Enemy Combatant TV, a live TV show of local protests and events.
Production
- The program would be produced by the SF-IMC Video Collective (the idea being that this collective would be formed in order to make this project happen).
- Segments would be open to submission by anyone and accepted by the SF-IMC Video Collective.
- The material for the segments could be drawn in part from interviews and other material gathered/produced by ongoing radio programs like "Enemy Combatant Radio". For example, if a reporter for "Enemy Combatant Radio" sets up an interview, he or she could videotape it either in place of or in addition to an audio recording.
Distribution
- A streaming version available on a TV section on sf.indymedia.org
- A downloadable version. Archived on Prelinger Archives? FTP servers?
- Broadcast on local community access tv stations
- Broadcast on Freespeech TV.
- Local screenings (Dolores Park, ATA...etc.)
- Mail distribution. (VHS, VCD, DVD)
Location
- Set up a TV studio in the basement of Redstone building.
- On-location wireless set up for live broadcasting Enemy Combatant TV.
Resources
- News desk and a roll of blue screen paper from Mike K.
- Video switcher hardware offered by Brightpathvideo
- Lowell lighting kit w/ 2 totas and 1 omni (needs bulb) from Jino
