Towards An Independent Media Centre for DSEi

This page gathers information about organising a public media centre and Indymedia reporting for the Disarm DSEi week of events and protests 6th-12th September 2003. For Flyers / infosheets etc see UkDmcPublicity

Reporting the Protests

There will be a few spaces for co-ordination, meetings for volunteers who want to get involved and limited net access - see below.

Telephone numbers will be made available for people to report events. There will be one main telephone number for indymedia reports for the website, one to leave audio msgs for uploading to the website, and one for the radio stream.

Gathering background links for features... a page will be set up to gather background links for use during reporting.

Indymedia Spaces

Indymedia Contact Point

There will be an Indymedia Contact Point at the Disarm DSEi Convergence Centre starting Sunday 7th September (meeting at 10.30am). This should be the first port of call for volunteers interested in getting involved.

Indymedia Access Point

There will be an Indymedia Access Point in a hall near to the protests. This will be for people to download images off their digital cameras and upload to the web and write reports - the facility will be open Tues 9th and Wed 10th only. There will only be a few computers here - connected via one adsl line.

Other Potential Indymedia Facilities

UPDATE 1st September - several spaces have been investigated but are not possible.

UPDATE 18th August - there may be another local space made available with more computers available for people to work on - several are being investigated. If confirmed they will be added here.

Other Computer Facilities

There are a very small number of internet cafes and community access facilities in the surrounding area of the DSEi protests - a map of these will be made available for indymedia volunteers at the convergence centre.

Radio Projects

A Call for Content has gone out to international imc audio lists and has been posted to the uk site and indymedia global radio site - see call here.

Radio Streaming

UPDATE 18th August: There will be a radio stream running tues 9th + wed 10th (8am-8pm) and thurs 11th September (9am - midnight). The stream will hopefully be icecast mp3 and ogg format at the same time from different servers. Contact imc-uk-radio@lists.indymediaSTOPSPAM.org

FM Broadcast in London

During the week several progs on Resonance FM 104.4 will feature news and views about DSEi. Other shows include:

5th September: 1700 - 1630 Slowsmall Peasants will present a documentary about arms and companies who have profited from war in the 20th century

9th September: 1300 - 1400 The Indymedia Newswire show will bring reports live from the street during the Direct Action day of DSEi protests and updates on what's been going on in the previous days.
