As a minor and easy to execute security precaution, we can set up people so that their nicknames are registered with the IRC server and they get set as channel operators in #uk automatically. Then, if someone shows up in the channel and says that they are, for example, societelibre, but are not registered, and start saying weird stuff or asking people for info, we can have a hint that maybe they are not in fact themselves.
Here's how to do it.
First, you need to register someone's nick. To do this, the person should execute the following command:
/msg nickserv register (password here)
This will register the password with the irc server
Then get a channel operator to issue the following command:
/msg chanserv access #uk add (nickname) 20
So, if we wanted to add societelibre as an automatic channel operator, we would say:
/msg chanserv access #uk add societelibre 20
