How to ban spammers on indymedia mailing lists

The mail server has broken down in the past because it couldn't handle the anti-spam program "spamassassin", see mail. It was brought back to live for a while without spam protection; so we had to rely on adding regular spammer domains to the "banned" list in mailman. Now there is an anti-spam application running on the mail server again - but my list below can be handy for domains that are proven spammers - simply filter them out.

To get to the relevant field you need top connect to the mailing list admin page. There click on the "Privacy Option' link - then you will see sub-menu's - select "Spam filters". The url for that admin page will be

https://lists.indymedia.org/mailman/admin/your-mailinglist-name/privacy/spam

Here you can fill in regular expressions (regexp), see the list below for examples:

Below is the list of domains which always are held for approvals (set for most uk mailing lists). Note that all mail originating from countries like the Arab Emirates (ae), China (cn), Japan (jp), Korea (kr), Tokelau (tk) and Taiwan (tw) is held. This is because a lot of spam originates from these countries and domains.

On the heavier-used and heavily-spammed uk lists like imc-uk, imc-uk-reports or imc-uk-features it's not unusual to have to check on up to 20 held mails a day - so revisit your 'pending requests' page often...
