Process for New Imcs in the UK-ish
Global Indymedia has a set process for new IMCs. It can take quite a long time until a new imc has collected all the necessary documents. In the past, imc-uk has offered subsections to emerging imcs, so they could have a website while going through the new-imc process. The United Kollectives are now thinking about a proposal to deal with new imcs in the uk regionally, so that new regional groups don't need to be approved globally.
The issue is: How can a new group get their own page within the imc-uk website with its shared database? The present (oct 03) imc collectives didn't need to go through a formal process, they were given the password rather informally. Positive: no bureaucracy. Negative: Some regional pages are dead for months.
- Here is some documentation about the discussion. Imc Italy went to a similar process. They give a page to regional collectives only after these collectives have been involved in the running of the italy page for some months. More mails: 1
- A snapshot of United Kollektives common grounds in terms of working practices plus intro was sent to [imc-uk-process] in April 2003. Oxford and Sheffield picked it up, and there were reactions from Cambridge, Manchester, Leeds. We might use it as a starting point for a uk based new-imc process. An updated version (Sept 03) is on UkNetworkSnapshot, archived on imc-uk-process (here)
