How are we going to organise this. We'll need a good plan otherwise this is going to get messy fast.
Questions:
Things we need to sort out, mostly stolen from
here. Please add your initial thoughts below the list:
- Who is the audience? As precisely as possible, to whom are we speaking with this video?
- Some possibilities:
- Our audience are the those on the edge. The line between the greys and the wonderful rainbow that is humanity. Those brainwashed and repressed by the hum-drum of work, daily life and especially the grey, cleansed, monotonic, commoditised, sanctioned and FUCKING BORING urban and suburban space perpetrated by heirarchies around oceania. Those who actually look at the urban space they pass though on their way to slavery. Those who love in urban space, aka the so-called "homeless". Those who perhaps lack the confidence to do the same as people on the doco will be seen to be doing. Those who get disillusioned when theirs or others art is scrubbed away in disdain. Those reclaiming urban space who perhaps do not recognise their acts as radical and revolutionary ones. Those free radicals torn from the rainbow and thrust into the pit of apathy for whatever reason. And finally those who seek to control urban space. In short, anyone (potentially)
affecting or affected by urban space. Hopefully we will be able to cause transformation of urban space during the course of the making of the documentary, even if it is only temporary.
- What is it exactly that we want to say? Can we state our message in one, clear sentence?
- No. We will not be repressed any longer by urban spaces.
- How long should the video be? Will it stand alone or be part of a package with other productions (perhaps in the future)?
- While a 2 - 2.5 hour doco would be ideal, this could be a prohibitive amount of effort, perhaps 1-1.5 hours would be better. It could be both, a doco, and some short snippets to be incorporated into an edition of the oceania newsreal, and possibly a medium length version for film festivals.
- How will people see this video? Where will it be shown? Who will show it? How long will the video be useful?
- As the Indymedia video distribution network gathers steam and the ImcOceaniaNewsreal helps bring about the meat-space part of the IVDN in oceania, a network will spring up to allow as many copies of the video to flow around oceania, and perhaps the world. We envisage that screenings by indymedia collectives will be a major way this will be viewed. Other possibilities include at art festivals such as tina or ..., online viewing by those with access to fast Internet connections. We hope the video will be useful into the future.
- Who will be speaking in the video?
- Artists, of all kinds, especially those creatively reclaiming urban space. Those who have been involved in these kinds of reclamations in the past and those involved currently. Other kinds of people mentioned in the audience section above.
- Who among the co-producers will participate in the planning process? Who will set up appointments? Who will be present at interviews? Who will help edit the video?
- Anyone who is interested in the concept and has the time to help. This needs to get more concrete as time goes by.
- Admittedly some of these are not very organised answers, but they are a start at least.
