Five minute EasyTWiki tutorial
A step by step guide to using the TWiki system, with pictures!
Using the tutorial
- This tutorial (in development) will teach you to create a TWiki account and edit pages.
- The more complete TWikiTutorial is very good.
- Look for extra help below in boxes like this: [ HELP me ].

How To: Open a link in a second window
We suggest you use this page to read this tutorial, and open a second window to do exercises. If you are unsure how to open a link in a new window (by "right-clicking" a link),
these instructions make it clear.
Step 1: Open TWikiRegistration in a new browser window
Open the
TWikiRegistration in another window so you can continue reading this tutorial. [
HELP me open a second window ]
Step 2: Create your TWiki account
Use the second page to enter your information for this system. The email address and name do not have to be real. [

Step 3: Edit a page (topic)
Now you have registered it will remember you until you close your browser programme.
Let's try to edit something! Open the
Sandbox link in another window, then click one of the links to TestTopic1, 2, 3 or 4 and come back here to keep reading. (If you get an error click 'back' in your browser and try a different TestTopic)
Once you're in a TestTopic have a short look and then click the 'edit page' button.
After clicking 'edit page' you should see a page something like this:
You are then looking at the text which creates that page.
Have a look at it and then press cancel in the top right-hand corner.
Do this as often as you want to get familiar with these two views.
At the top of the page is a table of contents similar to this:
Mars IMC Wishlist
Add .../ permanent link for each feature
Make a list of ideas for getting volunteers
Add Preview option to all Publish forms
MARS IMC Outreach |
Click on "Make a list of ideas for getting volunteers ". This takes you to that part of the page. Now read that idea for the Mars IMC and click on "MarsVolunteers".
See what people have written and click the edit button. Now simply add an idea - if you copy the way another one is written you'll get the same thing. Please sign everything you write in TWiki- You can do this simply by clicking on '
signature ' each time you write something
When you have something written and have signed your text click the 'preview changes' button. This will give you what the page looks like with the word 'preview' written in the background. You can click 'back' in your browser to edit again or click 'save changes' (the important buttons are always in the same area: top right)
You can now edit pages and leave your signature. Great!
Step 5: Find something that you want to comment on or edit and enjoy using TWiki.
Remember that TWiki does many more things - this tutorial only helps you start working on other peoples pages. To create your own and do much much more read the 20 minute
TWikiTutorial and come back into
TWiki System if you have a problem.
