Indymedia News Production Utility (input)

Overview

Welcome: That is the site for an Indymedia dispatch system called INPUT. Dispatch means managing and validation of incoming news on big events. This tool tries to facilitate the process of incoming and and outgoing news and the process of the translation. More Information about the dispatch process can be found on the wiki of the Dispatch Working Group.

This Tool is also a bit of an experiment, we are wondering whether it is possible to use these kind of dispatch tools on live events. So the biggest feature we need is usability. We focus on keeping it simple and stupid and try to facilitate and automate every process we can handle. So YOUR input is needed. What's the fastest and best way and what kind of feature would be useful? Please let us know!

As a dispatch itself is a network so is INPUT. It tries to build a network between the Tools and Sites we have in the Indymedia Network. In other words, input can interoperate with other web sites and online applications such as the Translation Tool or any web site which supports RSS. And long as the CMS powering your IMCs' website supports it, semi-automated export of articles from INPUT directly into your IMCs' website could be possible. So, syndication is one big point for INPUT too.

Contacts

If you would like to propose an improvement or extension, have any questions or would just like to discuss something, please contact us by email or via live chat (irc.indymedia.org, #input). Requirements and Installation

Download

As INPUT is currently in an early stage of development stage, there are no ready-to-use packages for download yet. The only way to get the code is currently to download a nightly snapshot or to check it out of the subversion repository on Codecoop.org.

ALERT! Attention: Please keep in mind that subversion snapshots contain code which is under heavy development and may be in a broken state. If you need a pre release which is stable enough to be used for a special action or event, please contact the developers.

Earlier releases are available at
  • input-latest.zip: this code equals the first revision on the subversion repository. (2005-01)
  • InputDispatch-2004-12.zip: this is a CVS snapshot from the old times before Codecoops's server crash. The code is from Dec. 2004.
