Dakar2011 Appeal for participation, donations and equipment

What

We are creating a convergence space where activists and grassroots
organizers 
in Africa can build their skills around media, be it community
art, radio, 
or new technology such as cell phones. The setting will be
 one
in which the participants will live and work together and hopefully form
lasting relationships and networks across the continent. The two weeks will
 be spent learning, working, and socializing. At the end of the two weeks,
 participants will use the skills they have attained to provide ongoing
coverage (live streaming and FM broadcasting, etc) for the World Social
Forum in Dakar.

Workshops Overview and Schedule

Why

There are three main goals that we hope this convergence will meet:

 - To build media production and distribution skills within existing
 African social movements and the indymedia network in Africa.
 - To develop relationships that both create and strengthen 
solidarity
 and networks of mutual support amongst groups on the African 
continent and
 around the world.
 - To make available (or create) necessary resources and tools so that the
 African activist and indymedia community can provide coverage for the WSF
 event itself.

Where

Dakar, Senegal, West Africa. Participants will stay together in a
residential setting for the two+ weeks.

Who

Grassroots movement organizers/activists from Africa and the rest of the
world.

When

January 23rd, 2011 to February 5th, 2011. Two weeks preceding the 
World
Social Forum, and the Forum itself: February 6th-11th, 2011.
