Policy (English version)
Indy Abruzzo\x92s Editorial Guide
Before reading the policy, if you don\x92t know the meaning of Newswire or Editorial Group, please read Open Publishing.
What is Policy? Policy, or Editorial Guides, are the principles we use to administrate the contents of Newswire. Our choice is always to sift the newswire as little as possible, but if necessary, our filters are:
- 1.hidding, means to transfer a post published in the Hidden Section, though always visible;
- 2.editing means to change a text file in a published Post;
According to the users and Indy Abruzzo\x92s collective hidden posts are those violating our Policy.
Indymedia Abruzzo does not censure anything, in fact hidden posts stay available in the proper section (although they are no more as visible as the other posts), in order to allow everyone to verify clearly the reasons which have brought to the hiding and to permit recovery in case of mistakes.
In particular circumstances it is possible to modify the published posts; if it contains sensitive data (family names, addresses, tel. numbers or everything else related to not-public people) these are replaced by xxx.
The same operation will be effected for pictures: if picture is published before its content is unrecognizable, we will modify and then published it.
To protect anonymity and privacy is a political choice. That is why Indymedia Abruzzo does not register the IP addresses of people who publish in this site, ensuring their anonymity.
/*Truth of posts*/
Indymedia Abruzzo does not hide post according to their truth. Indymedia Abruzzo is not a newspaper and news are not static; we invite users not to be passive in the media process, but to enrich the news with their comments, so that who reads can really understand what has happened.
Which are Policy\x92s criterions?
We reckon they are not The Bible but a sort of filter which can even make mistakes. In fact it can be modified during time.
Here are the criterion according to which a Post is considered \x93Out of Policy\x94:
- Fascist, racial and xenophobe post
- Sexist post
- Party or institutional propaganda post
- Religious propaganda post
- Post with pictures of identifiable people post
- Post without informations post
To better understand the meaning of these points, here are some general considerations:
- We hide post justifying, make propaganda or support fascism or nazism. We make out of order links to this kind of site.
- We hide post justifying, make propaganda or support racial, sexual, religious, social cultural and political Discrimination
- We hide communications, posters, bills or anything else making propaganda for a party (even its products) receiving public money. It could use its own resources instead of exploiting ours. In this case we suggest the to use indymedia Abruzzo in correct way, eliminating everything unuseful to pure information.
- During the election campaign all the posts referring to vote are hidden.
- We hide any religious post, or containing images of common people.
- Finally we hide post without informations, empty or meaningless or even written by the troll with the only aim to disturb.
Altri nodi italiani
Alcuni nodi locali italiani si sono gi\xE0 mossi per avviare il process, altri l'hanno gi\xE0 finito (toscana, napoli). Da questi possiamo ovviamente prendere spunti e informazioni utili su come muoverci.

Mission statement (chi siamo)
Cmi-abruzzo is a project of a group of persons who share the basic principles and the methods of Indymedia Network. The main cmi abruzzo purposes are, rated by importance: - give to voiceless individuals and groups a media to let them be able to report directely news and stories censored, hidden or distorted by mainstream media; - operate as an archive to find documents otherwise quickly overflowed by mainsream media flow Those purposes will be achieved mainly by a web site management that will be a collector of informations and (in)formative situations organized in real life. The management of this project will be done in an assembly way using\xC2 electronic communication tools (mailing lists, irc, instant messaging, etc...) as well by means of periodical meetings opened to all the interested people. The structure of the group is configured in an horizontal way and the decision making method used will be similar to the consensus method, in other words decisions will be taken unanimously and/or without explicit and motived vetoes. Due to the mailing lists technical and relational characteristics, we consider the active participation an obligation that everyone voluntarily accept as long as subscribes to the mailing list. The list will have public archives to everyone via web. There are many levels of activism related to Indymedia Abruzzo. The first one consist in publishing on the web site news and articles telling stories that otherwise would be ignored. To partecipate more actively, people should agree with this Mission Statement and with the policy, subscribe the mailing list, partecipate in the web site management and to the meetings organized. The web site would be totally autonomous as well as a part of an italian geographic network.
Membership Criteria (criteri di appartenenza)
[THIS IS THE CURRENT DRAFT OF THE IMC MEMBERSHIP CRITERIA. WE WILL SEND FUTURE DRAFTS AS THEY ARE AVAILABLE.]
IMC MEMBERSHIP CRITERIA - DRAFT Each IMC and Global Working Group is expected to:
a. Agree in spirit to the NIMC MissionStatement and PrinciplesOfUnity,
Some of us attended the old node italy.indymedia.org, Abruzzo was one of the categories of the old Italian node.
We know the criteria to move the project indymedia and share them fully.
b. Have a committed membership substantial enough to sustain a functional IMC,
Currently on the list of management are 20 members, some of whom have already participated in the node italy.indymedia.org
Among those who participate and wants to open the site, there are sufficient knowledge to ensure the management and technical maintenance of the site.
c. Have open and public meetings (no one group can have exclusionary "ownership" of an IMC),
We live in different parts of Abruzzo, but still we fail to "cover everything geographically", for this reason we organized and we will continue to organize IndyTour
[http://abruzzo.indy.ortiche.net/article/362] around the 'Abruzzo, to explain what indymedia and provide the basic skills required for
Where we are already trying as much as possible to spread a "method indymedia" to demonstrate that you can tell at first hand the things you do not delegate this task to someone.
Also try to explain that the concept of open publication is the only guarantee of true transparency.
d. Work toward developing a local Mission Statement or Statement of Purpose. Network Mission Statement may be adopted or used on an interim basis,
This and other documents were developed from the list of coordination in accordance with the criteria of the method of consent, or through a discussion that has come to give all opinions initially.
The document declaration of intent you can read it here: [Mission Statement] https://docs.indymedia.org/view/Local/ImcAbruzzoDocumentiProcess#Mission_statement_chi_siamo
e. Establish and publish an editorial policy which is developed and functions through democratic process, and with full transparency,
The policy as other documents was developed through the consensus method through a discussion in which we are committed for several months, and that in the end we found agreed text that you can read here:
All documents can be read starting from this link: [DOC-ITA] https://docs.indymedia.org/view/Local/ImcAbruzzoDocumenti
In addition, all documents in English, approved by the list have already been published on the site testing, and you can light from this link: https://abruzzo.indy.ortiche.net/documentation_list
f. Agree to the use of Open Publishing as described in the NIMC Editorial Policy [editorial collective comments: "We did agree that the term "Open Publishing" was one that is still being defined by the Global Network Collective, and we would wait and see what the results were before rewriting this criteria],
We believe the Open Publishing the heart of indymedia.
Our CMS Oscailt, developed by indymedia ireland, has been developed around this concept.
g. Adopt a decision-making policy that is in alignment with consensus principles which include open, transparent and egalitarian processes,
Indymedia Abruzzo, uses the method of consensus to make decisions.
The restricted situation of local node, compared to a national node, and the personal knowledge of all persons included in the list management, helps them to have particular difficulty in practice this method.
h. Have a spokesperson(s) willing and capable of participating in the global decision-making process and meetings as a rotating liaison/representative, with a clear understanding of the responsibilities that come with this role,
identify in turn, one or more references to be included in the list.
Our participation in the project dell'aggregatore national [http://italy.indymedia.org], allows us to know and relate with the problems of the global network with other nodes of the Italian language.
i. Participate in the key IMC Network Communication Methods that pertain to the health and vitality of the Network and that contribute to the work of the IMC. Assure that at least one person from your local IMC participates at any given time on the IMC-Communication list,

j. Have no official affiliation with any political party, state or candidate for office (comments: but individual producers have freedom to do whatever they like and local IMCs can "feature" stories about various political parties and initiatives),
Indymedia abruzzo is not connected with political parties [parliamentary and/or extra], who is writing part individually.
k. IMCs shall in no way engage in commercial for-profit enterprises. [We could add: The IMCN is committed to the decommercialization of information and will disassociate from any local IMC that decides to become a for profit media corporation].
Indymedia Abruzzo doesn't accept funding from institutions, structures, political parties, associations, but only by individual citizens who independently decide to support the project. To facilitate fundraising for the costs of the server, indymedia abruzzo has created a page for
