introductory_statement:
Malta, like many other countries, does not have a truly independent (free) media sources since all media organizations have to bow to capitalist interest for their profits. Many issues therefore do not get the coverage they deserve and many facts are hidden from the public to safeguard these interests. We are interested in setting up Indymedia Malta as so to have a true free and independent source of Media for Malta.
resources:
We can contribute in translations Maltese, English and Italian.
outreach:
Indymedia Malta is open for everyone. The core committee which is still growing and is composed from youths who already are working with local NGOs. A wide variety of NGOs is represented in the core committee. IMC Malta is not limited only to organizations and the people present in the core committee are on their behalf and representing any entity. The outreach to bring diverse opinion was done by word of mouth and email.
identity_makeup:
Most of the people in the core committee are already involved in other organizations, some are lobby groups, others grass roots and others directly work with those socially deprived. Both genders are represented in the committee and some of us are Catholics, others Agnostics and the rest Atheists.
steps_represent_diversity:
Most of the people that will be running IMC Malta are also in the activist scenario (Activism form different perspectives \x96 grass roots, fair trade, work with the disadvantaged, anti-war, disarmament, etc). Due to this reason it will be easy for us to integrate new volunteers into the activist scene. Although we intend to have some students following courses in journalism as interns as to give them experience in giving coverage on delicate issues. In this case we shall ask them to conduct interviews with people from NGOs which have been working in the field.
steps_involve_new_workfields: Not all members of IMC Malta have the same degree of experience with working in organization structures such as indymedia's. The people with more experience have an obligation towards their colleagues to share skills with those less expierenced. The collective as a whole should encourage expierence sharing through workshops.
