Santa Cruz Indymedia's All Volunteer Statement

Santa Cruz Indymedia has never paid contributors for their work and this will continue to be the policy. Various IMC\x92s have created paid positions, and we are not undertaking to block this, or to make the ImcNantesPrinciples of Unity more strict. As stated by Houston IMC, we hope that consensually, many other IMCs organize on an all volunteer basis. Like Portland Indymedia, Santa Cruz Indymedia is not a membership organization; it is a tactic, a concept, and a movement that can be effectively utilized in many different ways. Santa Cruz Indymedia is organized through working groups.

* Volunteers are encouraged to contribute more, and in the directions they most value, when they see that others are working out of a passion to change the world, not for money.

* Payment creates hierarchies.

* Without clear boundaries, IMC's could morph into typical NGOs.

* In keeping with the original purpose and roots of IMC, Santa Cruz Indymedia looks other models of resistance, in which teachers, members of the good government committees, and even doctors are not paid, but must organize money for food outside of their activism.
